More Information

"I had the opportunity to present in #VR to Accenture Canada‘s black ERG called BOLD, which stands for Black Outreach Learning & Development. Amber Akins and I presented on the topic of #Inclusive #Language in Technology.

There’s a lot said on taking a stand against racism but what does that actually look like?

There are certainly organizational behavior changes that need to take place but there are actions to be taken that can be taken at individual level such as performing a QA check on the language we use. As we deepen our awareness of what an inclusive workplace should look like, our language should reflect that new consciousness.

Certain terms or expressions can unintentionally harm, perpetuate damaging stereotypes and insult people. Inclusive language avoids bias and as such, the Accenture Technology Project Elevate team has created a guidebook to provide our employees with a #tool to avoid harmful language. We reviewed our research, methodology and the Inclusive Language Guidebook with attendees.

As a Black American it was very beneficial for me to listen in to the perspectives of our African, Black and Carribbean Canadians. There is opportunity to be more inclusive with our language regardless of how you identify.

Thank you Ejiro Oniovokukor and Sophia Lormeus for the opportunity to join the BOLD ERG in the #metaverse for this session on Inclusive Language in Tech! We look forward to future collaboration opportunities with your team!

I loved the pizza and hamburgers! Great touch ☺️ #technology #inclusivelanguage #blackintech"
